How is the virus spread?

How is the virus spread?

Genital HPV is transmitted via direct skin-to-skin contact or during sexual intercourse. It is highly infectious when warts are present. Since most infected people are not aware of the infection, the chances of passing the virus on to their sexual partners are very high.

HPV infection cannot be entirely prevented, even when using a condom. However, the use of barrier methods such as condoms, does give some protection. If you suspect the presence of warts, please avoid any sexual contacts and seek medical attention.
