In the UK we are all lucky that the National Health Service (NHS) has worldwide recognition as one of the best in the world.
However, despite the advances made in medicine, medical errors still occur. If you've been diagnosed with a medical condition, the ability to avail yourself of another professional independent consultation can be a life saver. In its Second Opinion service, MyHealthPortal gives you the option of sending your medical file to top UK and USA hospitals for an additional review prior to making any decisions regarding possible future treatment.
In general, a "second opinion" is when another doctor offers his/her views on the condition from which a person is suffering from and how it should be treated.
It can be more explanatory to use the term "further opinion" to cover all circumstances.
It should be clear that by definition, a second opinion is based on the existence of a first opinion.
Second opinions are a means for a patient to get additional expert advice from another doctor who specialises in treating specific medical problems.
